How today's weather made me a sad panda

>> Saturday, March 29, 2008

I drove out to the US National Whitewater Center and caused to rain. No, really. If I'd stayed home, those grey clouds coming in from the southwest would have stayed ominous and pregnant--but they wouldn't have done anything, they couldn't have done anything.

I wouldn't mind walking in a little bit of rain, but the Whitewater Center would: the trails are closed because the trails are becoming mud and bicyclists, especially, or even hikers would wreck the trails. I understand, of course, but it's still annoying. The weather, I'm still talking about, not the Center: if it had only started raining before I left home, I wouldn't have left home--duh.

So, anyway, I guess I'm headed home. It's not all bad--I was looking for a four-hour block to re-watch The Seven Samurai, which I bought on DVD quite a while back; I guess I finally have a free afternoon.

Your turn to write something. :)

I'll try to time my second round to make it so your turn comes up in an evening then, too.

You don't necessarily need to make us wait until tomorrow if you don't want to! You're stuck inside anyway!

Unfortunately for y'all--but not too shabby for me--I got a call from a friend right when I was starting up Seven Samurai. He was a bit down and was looking for something to do. He also has an extremely nice plasma TV and is a film buff and hadn't seen Samurai in ages. We picked up another friend of his and spent the afternoon with Kurosawa the way he ought to be seen. It was pretty awesome, but no writing was done.

I expect my chapter will get written at the coffee shop, noonishly. Sorry. Sort of. Okay, I actually have no regrets. The Criterion edition of Samurai looks spectacular and looked even spectacularer on a nice screen. But I'll try to get something done quickly for you.

Lassie: "Woof, Woof"

Farmer: "What's that you say, Lassie?.

Lassie: "Woof, grrrrrrr, Woof!"

Farmer: "Eric's bought a new Dell?"

Lassie: "Grrrrrrr, Woof, Bow-wow-wow!"

Farmer: "He's ringing a bell?"

Lassie: "Woooooooof! Woof, woof."

Farmer: "You mean Eric's gone to Taco Bell?"

Lassie: (bites farmer on the calf), "Grrrrrrr! Wooof, woof, arf, bow-wow-wow-wow-wow!"

Famer: "Yes, I'm feeling quite well."

Lassie: "Its a well. Eric's fallen down the well. If you'd ever paid any attention to anything other than the turnips, you'd know its always a fucking well, you schmuck!"

Farmer: "Well why didn't you just say so in the first place?"

Right, so the secret to getting lots of comments is not to post? Fascinating. It's like one of those Chinese finger-traps, isn't it? A kind of Zen puzzle. Take a little time getting to something--like you indicated you might, having been one of the people who suggested a two-day window instead of two-a-day, and everyone writes tons of comments on your blog, gratifying your ego until you discover that they're speculating you've tumbled down a hole.

Yes, well, the entry is up, thank you. And I think it's adequate, though it's all expository writing, which I really tend to hate. But never mind, it's there and now I hope the rest of you are now happy pandas. Are you? Hm?

Because I'm quite the satisfied panda, myself. Or mostly satisfied. Because, like I said, it's all expository writing and not anything as fun as dialogue or an action scene. But it has its points of interest.

And now someone else is on the spot, eh? The hot seat. At the front of the stage. Under the gun. Pushed down the plank. Etc., etc., etc.
