Oh, alright--happy birthday, Mr. Waters!

>> Saturday, September 06, 2008

Roger Waters, the former bassist of Pink Floyd and the band's primary lyricist from some time around 1971 until 1983, hasn't always been my favorite person in the world. After all, he did ditch his bandmates around '85 and then tried to keep them from playing under the band name they'd used for twenty years, all on the spurious claim that he "was" Pink Floyd--as opposed to the band effort that defines the group's best work.

But that's water (no pun intended) under the bridge. The Floyd's reunion a few years ago at Live8 was a sweet moment, and much has been forgiven, if it was ever that important to start with. Which, unless you were ever actually a member of Pink Floyd, it probably wasn't.

So anyway, Mr. Waters is 65 today, and I've been trying to note his former bandmates' birthdays this year, so here's a big old "Happy Birthday" to Mr. Waters, too. There have been times, Mr. Waters, that you were a real bastard and a pain in the ass, but your words have meant a lot to me over the years--so here's to ya', and many happy returns besides.
