Pat Buchanan is a Nazi-sympathizing, historically-illiterate douchebag

>> Saturday, September 05, 2009

You know what, I'm not even going to waste my time explaining the title: Buchanan can say it himself in his own words here, in an article explaining why WWII (and by explicit extension, The Holocaust) was really entirely Poland and Great Britain's fault.

No, seriously. He says that. Prepare to have your mind exploded.

Indeed, why would [Hitler] want war when, by 1939, he was surrounded by allied, friendly or neutral neighbors, save France. And he had written off Alsace, because reconquering Alsace meant war with France, and that meant war with Britain, whose empire he admired and whom he had always sought as an ally.

See! Hitler was just misunderstood, poor bastard!

Keep in mind this feminine hygiene product is regularly put on television as a "serious" pundit, is invited to write for various magazines and newspapers, twice attempted to secure the Republican nomination for President of the United States and actually ran once as a Reform candidate. Are there any conservatives still defending this bum? Smart ones, I mean? Tell me this guy's been purged from the party? How is it this guy was a prominent Republican advisor and figurehead through the '80s and '90s without WWII veteran George H.W. Bush stopping him in a hallway and mopping the floor with him (you know H.W. could have kicked his whiny little Hitler-loving ass).

No, I'm not surprised, but that doesn't make it any less appalling.

POSTSCRIPT: TNR pointed out that Buchanan's Hitlerphilia is old news--back in 1999. So, again, no surprises here, even if it makes your brain blow up a little to see someone of such prominence being, I dunno, so forthright.

I should also add that Mr. Douchey McDouchebag has an absolute First Amendment right to his marred little opinion and to express it wherever he can get a forum (including his own website). I'm certainly not about to argue that Mr. McDouchebag ought to be censored. But where's the outright condemnation? Routine identification? Wouldn't it be nice if, whenever he appeared on television, Mr. McDouchebag were introduced with, "And here, with us today to discuss healthcare, is noted Hitler apologist and Nazi sympathizer Pat Buchanan; morning, Pat, welcome to the show." Or the next time a national newspaper runs an editorial by Mr. McDouchebag: "Mr. Buchanan is a former speechwriter and advisor to Richard M. Nixon and former Presidential candidate who blames Poland for starting WWII--we're not sure why we asked him to write a column on immigration, other than the fact we needed to fill a few column inches and this bozo is always good for generating letters to the editorial staff (I'm probably not supposed to admit that in the bio section, am I?)."

He's a douche. Call him one.

It's really sort of a dumbfounding article, isn't it?

Unfortunately, most of the comments seem to be from Poles who aren't exactly proficient in written English. I'm not entirely sure what their points were and I gave up reading them after the long-winded guy showed up.

I am horrified and speechless. Period.

Yeah, sadly this is typical Buchanan. Even a poor historian knows that there are more than enough documents that Hitler had expansionist plans.

And notice the "7 million Hong Kongese whom the British surrendered to Beijing" snark as well. Oh Pat, if you only could actually read history and use that pitiful excuse for a brain.

Unfortunately, in my RSS feed, the feminine hygiene photograph you used shows up full sized. Just thought you'd like to know that.

And Buchanan sucks and the media should stop giving him a platform for his bile.

Sorry, Jeri. It's a hotlink from Wiki Commons, not sure how I'd scale it for RSS readers.

But you have to admit, "gigantic douche" does get the point across, no? :-)

Frankly, I find your use of the word "douchebag" highly insulting - to actual douchebags. Buchanan is better likened to a colostomy bag.
