Wait, it's what time? (And still no Tuesday post?)

Oh wow--there's no blog entry for today.

I had a phenomenal four day weekend. The Significant Other (yes, Janiece, we'll be having a contest for a new nom de plume for her at some point in the near future) and I went up to Boone, North Carolina, for the weekend. Went driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway, walked around the Greenway up there, took in some fireworks, had a phenomenally good meal Sunday night at Bistro Roca in Blowing Rock; it was damn good stuff.

Consequently, I find myself at nearly nine P.M. in the evening with no blog entry for today. It may not matter to you, it matters to me.

In keeping with the filler posts of the past several days, we'll go with a cover version of a great song. I think, why not, we'll go with one of Bruce Springsteen's earliest fans taking a shot at The Boss' "Growin' Up"; it's just a fan video, but worth the listen:

David Bowie caught Bruce at Max's Kansas City and became an enormous fan at the instant, and recorded a number of covers of Boss songs including the one embedded above. Great stuff, and a testament to both talents--Springsteen for managing to impress David Fucking Bowie and Bowie for being so constantly keen-nosed for new talent that he was one of the first guys to dig this Jersey kid.

Oh, and if you're a fan of either artist (or both), the classic story of the legendary '74 meeting of the giants is worth a read. Just sayin'. It's not that anything hugely profound happened, more that there's just something about the mental pictures of a tweaked Bowie (this was around the time he'd practically stopped consuming anything that wasn't a controlled substance--seriously, it's a wonder he neither starved to death nor overdosed) and a tweaked Springsteen (not drugs: he'd been up all night and taken a bus ride from hell to meet up with the Ziggy himself) in a room together: two of the greatest geniuses in rock and roll history in a room together with their brains fried by drugs and exhaustion, respectively, damn, what can you say? Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall, right?

She is. But that could be made official. Check, as they say, this space for further details....
